RESTORATION WORKSHOP
Paintings
Safely on the wall is often the best place for a painting. And yet an accident can be just around the corner. The work of art, which has often been owned and cherished for many years, is damaged with a tear or square. Our restoration workshop can usually repair this damage invisibly for you.
A painting can also be reclothed, for example when repairing a large tear or a weakened or brittle canvas. The painting is glued to a new piece of canvas for reinforcement.
Over the years, a painting gradually becomes dirty, for example due to nicotine deposits, soot from candles or a fireplace, insects or pollution in the air. This surface dirt can also attract moisture again, causing harmful mold growth. Cleaning a painting is meticulous work that also requires the use of the right means. Working with harmful substances is avoided as much as possible by us. The protective varnish layer of a painting can also yellow, making a painting appear gloomy, dull and dark. Our restoration studio can clean the painting by removing the surface dirt and the disturbing layer of varnish. Then the painting is again provided with a clear, new layer of varnish. The effect of this is often astonishing; a dark and gloomy painting which has regained its bright, sparkling colors and depth. The re-applied layer of varnish is also an important protection for the painting.
Not only due to damage, but also due to aging, it can happen that in some places on a painting the paint has come loose and has disappeared. This disrupts viewing pleasure and also makes a painting vulnerable. Our restoration workshop can retouch these spots for you with the right paint and color; reapplying the paint in an area where the original paint has disappeared.
Paper Restoration
Our restoration workshop handles a wide variety of paper objects, such as prints, drawings and works of art on paper. This usually concerns repair caused by dust and dirt, discoloration, tears and damage, water stains, mould, damage due to incorrect framing and the use of harmful types of adhesive tape and tapes.
We also provide custom-made acid-free, dust-proof boxes, cassettes and wallets to keep objects on paper in optimal condition for a long time. We can place vulnerable pieces in passe-partout and provide UV-resistant glass when framing.
framing
The frame forms one whole with a painting, and can be affected by, for example, nicotine or soot deposits, the woodwork can warp or can be affected by, for example, woodworm. Damage to a frame can also occur during transport or hanging of a painting. Our restoration workshop can restore this for you. We can also repatinate the frame (give it a bronze colour) or gild it, for example, to match your desired color scheme.
